Elmfield School is aiming to become a Steiner Academy
Elmfield provides a meaningful alternative to mainstream education in Dudley. We believe this alternative should be available to all families, regardless of their income. Unfortunately this is not the case at present as Elmfield is only accessible to pupils who can afford the fees. By becoming a state funded Steiner Academy this economic barrier can be removed.
We are a successful, happy and culturally diverse school and an integral part of the local community. With the filter of fees removed, we will be able to serve an even wider range of social and cultural backgrounds.
As an academy we can raise the profile of the Steiner curriculum and become a recognised contributor to the education debate, both locally and nationally.

What about…?
Part of the process of exploring academy status is to consider any possible negative impact on the school. The two most frequent and important questions to arise have been about loss of control and admissions criteria.
Loss of control
Elmfield School has always successfully managed the burden of education legislation and will continue to do so. All schools are vulnerable to government intervention; becoming an academy does not increase or reduce this risk. The key to preserving our independence is ongoing sound management.
Admissions criteria
Academy admissions criteria are based on proximity to the school. While this raises its own issues, a distance barrier is more equitable than the current wealth barrier. Any new admissions criteria will not impact existing pupils and families.
